What is a Hybrid Car?
Most of us have either owned or ridden in a hybrid vehicle at some point. One example would be a mo-ped (a motorized pedal bike). It's a type of hybrid due to the fact that it combines the power of a gasoline engine and the pedal power of its rider. Thruthfully, hybrid vehicles are all around us. Many of the locomotives we see pulling trains are diesel-electric hybrids, some even being about to travel up to 100 miles on one gallon of fuel. Most of the bigger Cities have diesel-electric buses -- which draw electric power from overhead wires and run on diesel when they are away from the wires. The bigger mining trucks are usually diesel-electric hybrids. Submarines are also hybrid vehicles -- being nuclear-electric or diesel-electric. Vehicles that draws on two or more sources of power for propulsion is a hybrid. Almost all hybrid cars on the road right now are gasoline-electric hybrids.
A few great reasons to own a Hybrid Car are as follows:
- They're as comfortable to drive as conventional cars.
- You're sure to find a model that fits your family's lifestyle.
- You'll save money on gas. You can get about 60mpg in the city and 51mpg on the hwy!
- You'll be doing your part to help protect the environment.
- You'll get cash back from Uncle Sam. The IRS's Clean Fuel Vehicle Tax Deduction allows you to take $1,500 off your Fedral Tax bill. And you may even qualify for other incentives on the state and local level
- They're not all super-expensive, only costing 1000-2000 more than most mainstream cars (dont forget about the tax breaks also)
- You will be doing your part to secure a much more environmentally safe place for the future.
